Martin Guitars

One of the oldest and most respected names in American guitar production is C.F. Martin & Company. Rightfully so! The Martin Guitar Company was founded in 1833 by German immigrant Christian Frederic Martin in New York, New York. The company is currently based in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Though they have branched into other areas during their long history, Martin currently produces acoustic and classical guitars, ukuleles, and strings. Blues Angel Music offers the full line of Martin Guitars and strings in Pensacola and online.

Every guitar you’ve ever played was influenced in one way or another by C.F. Martin & Company. It is commonly believed that in the mid-1800s, Martin developed the X-bracing system. Martin owned no patent on this design, but they were the first company to start using X-bracing on a large scale. Many believed fan bracing produced a better sound on instruments strung with gut strings, but the X-bracing paved the way for steel strings which came into popularity in the early 1900s as people demanded louder and more percussive sounds.

If you’ve ever played a dreadnought guitar, you can thank Martin for that pleasure. In 1916 Martin collaborated with retailer Oliver Ditson Co. to produce a larger, deeper guitar. It received the dreadnought name after the Royal Navy’s large battleship, the HMS Dreadnought. The ship was so large, it had nothing to fear (nought to dread), and was given the name, which seemed fitting for this new, larger guitar body style.

Martin offers a very deep and broad range of guitars from the Backpacker to the American Chopper Custom and everything in between. We stock many Martin guitars in both Pensacola and Spanish Fort.
