A Few Notes from the 2019 NAMM Show

Every year, after the rush of holiday shopping has ended and everyone has made (and broken) their New Year’s resolutions, Anaheim, California heats up with the Winter NAMM Show. Every January, Blues Angel Music sends a cadre of folks out west to check out the newest gear and decide on which items they think you’ll like best. Some of these items are already in stock, others… not just yet. Check out the selections below for a sampling of what’s to come.

PRS John Mayer Silver Sky

If you follow @johnmayer on Instagram, you may have already seen the new colors for his signature PRS Silver Sky guitars. The Silver Sky is a very popular guitar, and these new colors, added to the four already produced, will give buyers the ability to find one that’s just right for their taste. The new colors are: Moc Sand, Orion Green, Golden Mesa and Dodgem Blue.

’62 Princeton Chris Stapleton 

The hand-wired ’62 Princeton Chris Stapleton Edition combines the classic 6G2 circuit with Stapleton’s favorite features and personally chosen aesthetic touches. This 12W combo features Fender Vintage “Blue” tone caps, Schumacher™ transformers, an upgraded Eminence® 12” Special Design “CS” speaker, and an output tube-biased tremolo circuit.

Blackstar Super Fly

We have featured the Blackstar Fly before, and it’s been an incredibly popular little amp with killer size to sound ratio. For 2019, Blackstar has improved on their product, and are now calling it a take-anywhere street-performance amp. It has separate mic and guitar channels which can be tuned independently. The guitar channel features clean, overdrive and a specially voiced acoustic setting.

MXR Dookie Drive

WELCOME TO PARADISE! In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Green Day’s groundbreaking album Dookie (Spotify, Apple Music), this pedal captures the dirty yet articulate sound Billie Joe Armstrong used on that record, combining the sounds of two modded amplifiers into a single stomp box for a harmonic range full of depth and dimension.

KRK Rokit 5 G4

The Rokit 5 G4 is the fourth iteration of this studio monitor, and the improvements shine. It features pro-grade design and features with low-distortion Kevlar drivers and a Class D amp with built in brickwall limiter. DSP driven room tuning with 25 graphic eq settings help correct or at least minimize the impact of a problematic acoustic environment and fluid mechanics tuned to the system produce consistent air pressure behavior at any volume.
