Lesson Policy
Welcome to the Blues Angel School of Music! We’re so excited to be part of your musical journey. To help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for every student and teacher, we’ve put together a few simple guidelines. If you ever have questions, we’re here and happy to help.
How It Works
- Lessons are 30 minutes long and take place once a week.
- Longer lessons may be available depending on teacher availability and student interest—just ask!
- Tuition can be paid on a weekly basis, or you can prepay for the entire month at a discounted rate.
- The monthly rate stays the same whether your lesson time happens four or five times.
- All students are enrolled in automatic billing (AutoPay)—it’s a simple way to stay on track without having to remember each month.
- Books and materials are not included in lesson fees, but your teacher will guide you on what’s needed.

Year-Round Learning
Lessons are offered year-round, and we strongly encourage students to continue through the summer. Just like reading or academics, taking a break from lessons can lead to learning loss and slower progress in the fall.
We’re happy to work with your summer vacation plans and help you stay consistent—even if that means adjusting your schedule for a few weeks. Staying connected to your instrument over the summer keeps the momentum going and makes a big difference!

Getting Started
We welcome new students year-round!
You can register in person, over the phone, or by filling out our online lesson form. Once your payment is set up, we’ll match you with a teacher and schedule your weekly lesson time.
What’s the Right Age to Start?
We love welcoming new musicians of all ages, but not every student is ready to start the same way—or on the same instrument. Learning an instrument takes a mix of focus, physical development, and emotional readiness. Here are a few things to consider:
- Attention Span
Private lessons are 30 minutes long. That can feel like a long time for young children who are still developing the ability to sit still and stay engaged. If your child isn’t quite ready, don’t worry—we’re happy to help you plan for a better start time. - Instrument Size & Dexterity
Instruments like trumpet, saxophone, and flute require a certain amount of strength, posture, and hand control. Brass and woodwind instruments need strong breath support. Woodwinds and strings require finger precision. Some younger children may not be physically ready just yet—and that’s okay! - Playing With Others
Some instruments—like violin and trumpet—only play one note at a time, so they usually play with other musicians. For this reason, we strongly recommend students on these instruments join in their school band or orchestra program. If your child isn’t in those programs, they may have more fun with piano or guitar, which play many notes at once. - Why Piano Is a Great First Instrument Piano is a wonderful option for beginners. It helps students visually connect with musical patterns, develop both hands equally, and build a strong foundation in melody, harmony, and rhythm—all without needing to worry about embouchure or lung capacity.
If you’re unsure what instrument or age is the best starting point, just ask! We’ll help you find the right fit based on your child’s readiness and interests.

Attendance & Cancellations
We understand that things come up! If you need to miss a lesson, please let us know as soon as possible. While we aren’t able to offer refunds or credits for missed lessons, your teacher may be able to offer a makeup depending on their availability.
If a teacher ever needs to cancel, the lesson will always be rescheduled or credited to your account.
Students who miss three or more lessons may be removed from the schedule so that their time can be offered to others on the waitlist.
