Most rock bassists, whether directly or indirectly, are influenced by the playing and tone of Cheap Trick’s Tom Petersson. After all, just about every practicing pro bassist lists Tom as a major influence. So when Tom asked us to help him design an innovative new instrument, we jumped at the opportunity. The Chaparral is the solid body version of the Acoustic Twelve String, Petersson’s instrument of choice and one of the products of our creative collaboration with the Cheap Trick bassist. The Chaparral’s sound is so thunderously huge as to be almost scary. But its trademarks are the shimmering harmonics that are simply impossible to to achieve with any other bass. The effect is not unlike the sound of a bass and a guitar playing exactly the same parts – yet it’s fuller and more omnipresent. And you don’t have to re-learn how to play the bass to master it. So exert a little influence of your own. See your Hamer dealer about a Chaparral 12. But don’t even strap one on unless you’re really in the market. Because once you’ve played it, this bass will haunt you until you have one of your own.
