DESCRIPTION
We’re excited to present this awesome vintage Gibson EM-150 acoustic/electric mandolin. This one has been carefully upgraded by our world-class technicians with a stainless steel re-fret and a new bone nut! Aside from a replaced tone potentiometer, the electronics are original, including the P90 pickup!
This is one of the easiest playing mandolins we’ve had our hands on; and the tone produced by this instrument is just beautiful! This one is definitely player-grade but it hasn’t been abused; as there are no cracks or structural repairs! The tail piece cover is missing. But the rest of the tail piece hardware appears to be original.
The tone/volume knobs appear to be replacements. The original Kluson tuners were also removed and replaced with an old set of 4-inline classic gear tuners.
If you know anything about vintage Gibson serial numbers, then you’re probably aware of how wacky they can be.
Here’s what we do know:
- Number inside right f-hole reads: “2847 5”
- Gibson switched from the “script” logo to the “block logo” (which this mandolin has) in 1948
- Gibson also switched to the P90 pickup (which this mandolin has) in 1948
- In 1955, Gibson began using an orange sticker for the FON & SN inside the F-Hole, rather than it just being printed inside the back (as seen here).
^^^ All of the information above suggests that this mandolin’s year of production is no earlier than ’48 and no later than ’55.
