Fender Mexican Stratocaster 1998 – Midnight Blue – with Premium Upgrades
This is a USED instrument, produced in 1998. This example has minor blemishes on the body and top of the headstock. The most notable imperfection is a moderate amount of buckle rash. This guitar has been heavily upgraded and professionally set up by our in-house technicians (see upgrades list).

Boy, do we have a guitar for you today.
On occasion, we’ll have an instrument arrive in our shop where we see loads of potential; and this late 90’s Mexican Strat is no exception. Our in-house artisans were so intrigued by its unusual Midnight Blue ash body and comfortable playing maple neck, that they decided to upgrade and mod the heck out of it.
This example has been tricked out with all gold hardware, knobs, jack plate, and strap buttons. The original pickguard has been swapped out for a replacement in turquoise pearloid, while the plastic tremolo cover has been replaced to match the guitar’s beautiful Midnight Blue finish.
Not just a looker. But a fantastic player too. The finish on the maple fingerboard and the back of the neck have been removed; resulting in a smooth and fast playing neck. Additionally, the guitar has been re-fretted with stainless steel along with the installation of a bone nut. The gold Fender locking tuners in combination with the gold Vega Trem system provide excellent tuning stability, all while having a loose and expressive floating vibrato. The Vega Trem also comes with extra springs to easily adjust the level of tensions (see photos).
In addition to all the upgrades mentioned, our technicians decided to go all out on the pickups and electronics. For the neck and middle pickups, we installed Lollar Super Strat single coils. In the bridge, we dropped in a Lollar Firebird mini humbucker. Over $500 in pickups alone! And yes, they’re also gold. We love gold around here.
The electronics have been fully gutted and taken to the next level; with an all new wiring harness along with a mid boost pre-amp that can take a moderately clean tone and push it to new heights in borderline fuzz territory. It’s the same circuit found in Clapton Strats.
It comes with a new Fender Foam Core Case
Controls & Preamp:
This pre-amp is equipped with a TBX circuit found on Clapton Strats. the following explains the control layout:
- The left control(closest to the bridge pickup) is set as a regular Master volume. The middle knob
- The middle control is a Master tone control with a twist. It’s set to “normal” at 5, it rolls the tone off as expected when turned down towards zero, and when turned up, it adds a brightness while subtly boosting the mids.
- The right control (closest to jack) is a variable presence control when turned all the way up takes your signal to a borderline saturated fuzz territory.
Overall, this turned out to be an amazing instrument and is a testament of what our shop is capable of when inspiration strikes! If you’re looking for something different that still feels like home, this could be the one for you!
