Description
Here’s a really FUN one for you. This is a super cool vintage Sear’s Silvertone U1 made by Danelectro. The pots indicate it was made in the 42nd week of 1960. If you’ve been considering one of these for sometime now but have been on the fence due to its non-existent adjustable trussrod, look no further!
While these are awesome little 3/4 sized players, they do have some drawbacks.. Lucky for you, we have a full-service repair shop staffed with talented guitar-techs that killed two birds with one stone.
We had already determined that we were going to re-fret this beauty. So we went ahead and did so with stainless steel fret wire along with a bone nut. Additionally, our shop used a compression refret method; essentially using the pressure of the frets to straighten & stabilize the guitar’s neck. As a result, you have an incredibly stable instrument that resonates beautifully, bends easily, and has nice low action (see photos).
In addition to the frets & bone nut, we also installed some Kluson Deluxe tuners with vintage white buttons, along with a Danelectro style bridge with 3 barrel brass saddles. The result is a killer playing vintage instrument!
The original electronics & the single lipstick pickup are fully functional and sound amazing.
While it has aging, checking, and wear throughout, it’s in excellent cosmetic and structural condition considering the age. It feels comfortable and worn in. But not abused!
